One of these days, I’m going to actually have time to sit for an extended period of time and play a story-driven video game. Until that day comes, though, I look forward to games like Hearthstone.

What is Hearthstone? Check out the video below to find out. It’s from March, but still relevant (one change to the game since the video was posted is that the Forge is now known as the Arena).

Hearthstone is a collectible card game (CCG) that’s easy to pick up, but still manages some deep mechanics. If you’ve ever played Magic the Gathering, it borrows heavily from that (Anecdotally, I’ve never played MtG, but Hearthstone lead me to look into MtG some). However, it simplifies a lot of the concepts from MtG and puts it into a clean presentation with Blizzard’s online know-how. The overall game is something incredibly approachable and doesn’t have the logistical constrains of a physical card game.

The game is still currently in beta, but has amassed quite a huge following online. At Blizzcon, Blizzard’s semi-annual convention, their Hearthstone Invitational tournament had more viewers than Starcraft 2.

Since this is my main game, I’ll be doing follow up posts on Hearthstone on the strategy side of things. So hopefully, you’ll come back!
