Engadget was on hand for a practice match between Jeopardy champions Ken Jennings, Brad Rutter, and Watson, IBM’s natural language processing supercomputer.

From Engadget’s liveblog are a handful of pictures of slides depicting the performance over time of Watson. Here’s the baseline:

As you can see by the brown line, the computer’s performance in Jeopardy was pretty dismal, well below the “winners cloud” at the top of the chart.

But over time, Watson improved. It’s performance line reaching into the winners cloud.

And so in this practice match between the computer and two of the best at Jeopardy, Watson came out victorious. With $4,400, Watson beat Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter, who only had $3,400 and $1,200, respectively.

The three will spar on Jeopardy three times, airing on February 14, 15, 16. Personally, I can’t wait!
